Biografie

Robert Kohnen studeerde orgel in Mechelen en aan het koninklijk Conservatorium te Brussel. Als clavecinist is hij autodidact. Hij was een van de stichters van het Alariusensemble. Vanaf 1959 maakten Wieland Kuijken en later ook Sigiswald Kuijken deel uit van het ensemble. In 1972 werd het ensemble ontbonden. Sindsdien speelt Robert Kohnen vooral met zijn vroegere collega's in losse groepen. Hij werkt samen met vele andere specialisten in de oude muziek, zoals Barthold Kuijken, Gustav Leonhardt, Frans Brüggen, Anner Bijlsma, René Jacobs, Paul Dombrecht, Ryo Terakado, enz.
