The specialist's guide to...
Jean Richafort is an expansive, six-voice affair, perhaps intended to commemorate Josquin Desprez (d1512). My choice is a bit naughty, for Paul van Nevel's old trick of doubling the voice parts skews the counterpoint quite maddeningly (it's not just the purists who'll prefer the more recent reading from Cinquecento - which plays it straighter). Van Nevel's sense of pacing and the Huelgas's luscious sonority are near immaculate.
