"Vivaldi's Vier seizoenen is het meest uitgekauwde stuk muziek uit de canon, maar wordt hier gerevitaliseerd in een confrontatie met het strijkkwartet dat John Cage in 1949 schreef en dat Frank Agsteribbe bewerkte voor barokorkest. Cages ijzige en lethargische idioom zet de kleuren van Vivaldi's seizoenen dikker aan en maakt ze sensueler. Het spel van B'Rock is helder en fris, met onverwachte accenten en een ingehouden ruigheid die pas in L'Estate explodeert."

C'est fort bien réalisé, mais assez peu habité. Que vient faire le couplage avec Cage ? Créer une sorte de jeu intellectuel ? Le rapprochement entre son dépouillement ascétique (senza vibrato) et le violon vivaldien laisse perplexe.

The ensemble's harpsichordist and musical director Frank Agsteribbe states in his bookley-note that 'the immediate cause' for the recording is Cagve's direction that his quartet should be played 'without vibrato and with only minimum weight on the bow'.
A perfect fit, it seems, for gut strings and Baroque bows, and a perfect opportunity in the case of the Vivaldi to 'make it new' by juxtaposing it with Cage's quartet. And yes, it too pays off big time, with each movement of th eCage acting as a steange, oneiric pendant of footnote to each concerto in The Four Seasons. [...]
But in the context of Cage's poised stillness, the effect is extraordinary.
