Perscommentaren
Philip Catherine is one of the leading guitarists of his generation, but Bert Joris makes a solid case for Catherine's credentials as a composer on Catherine and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra's 'Meeting Colours'. In terms of color, Joris frequently evokes Gil Evans, but what distinguishes Joris is his frequent, sophisticated use of counterpoint. When he highlights with flutes and clarinets, Joris buttresses the guitarist's lith swing and aura of savoir. When he brings the brass on strong, it is often in support of Catherine's occasional use of a gritty tone and a harder edged line. ****
