"'Soul in a picture' is een veel lyrischer opname dan 'Nobody is illegal'. Het is ook een sterkere opname, omdat de spektakelkanten achterwege zijn gelaten en de muziek dieper graaft. Bovendien klinkt het Jef Neve Trio veel hechter." (...) "'Soul in a picture' begint als zachte poëzie, gaat dan over in een meer soulvolle uitvoering, om weer stil uit te doven. Bij de plaat hoort ook nog een bonus cd, 'Replay silence', een uitgesponnen vrije improvisatie."
